We grow three different varieties of cherries in our orchard:
LAPINS
The Lapin is a cross between the Van and the Stella cherry. The Lapin is a very large sweet cherry in a deep red mahogany colour and can grow up to the size of a twoonie. It is similar to the Bing in flavour, it is usually ready for harvest around the end of July and the first part of August.
SKEENAS
The skeena is a relatively new variety developed in the Summerland Research Station in British Columbia. It is a large, very firm cherry with good flavour. It has very thick stems and matures around the same time as the Lapins, the end of July and first part of August.
ROYAL ANNE
Sorry the Royal Anne variety is not available for membership. It will be sold on a per pound price to members only.
The Royal Anne cherry is a very large white fleshed cherry. It is a very beautiful cherry as it is a yellow and pink colour. It is a firm cherry with excellent flavour, but does not ship well. The Royal Annes are ready for harvest at the end of July. There is a very limited number of these trees.
Gord will take care of the family trees like they are his own children. Gord has 26 years of experience in horticulture. He will water the cherry trees, prune them, and feed them. Gord will also monitor the trees for pests and diseases. If anything is suspected a horticulturist will be consulted and the appropriate procedures will be followed. This is done to keep the family trees and fruit healthy and bug free.
The orchard has been BC-gap certified, and has been approved by the Environmental Farm Plan. This indicates that we are conscientious of the environment and will only use the recommended sprays.
You will be invited to come and harvest your fruit at the specified time, so that you can come and pick with confidence knowing that you have good quality fruit.
